Can you affect the outcome of a battle while it is happening?

That may sound like a strange question, but I have maxed out all my mares at my current level (21) and have maxed out their skills and equipment as well and all are at evolve level 1. Today I was beaten in Arena by a deck that had the exact same mares as me, but half of them were at a lower level. As far as I can tell there is no strategy during battle, you just tap the special skill when it lights up. Am I missing something?? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Arena cannot be affected during the fight, it is pure auto... and the timing seems very special to me but can be use against the ennemy. Critical hit might change a lot too.

You should be able to release the Primary Skill sooner if you don't automate it. Otherwise it will release the next time the mare is supposed to attack.

I also like to hold off on the healing skills until absolutley needed.
